Borrowing and Renewing

Checking Out Library Materials at Pellissippi State

To borrow books, DVDs, or other materials from the library, simply bring the items to any campus Library Circulation Desk or ERC (Educational Resource Center) Service Desk.

You’ll need to show one of the following:

  • Your Pellissippi State ID card that’s valid for the current semester
    OR
  • A combination of the following:
    • A government-issued photo ID (such as a driver’s license, state ID card, military ID, or passport)
    • Your Pellissippi Student Number (P-number)
    • Confirmation of your current address in our system

Returning Library Materials

You can return items to any campus Library Circulation Desk or ERC Service Desk.

At the Hardin Valley Campus, there’s also a 24-hour outdoor book return located just before the entrance to the ERC Building—on the right-hand side as you approach.


Borrower Responsibilities

All library users are expected to follow the library’s borrowing policies. You are responsible for:

  • Returning items on time
  • Paying any late fees or replacement costs if items are lost or damaged
  • Covering any collection fees if your account goes to collections

Community Borrower Access at Pellissippi State Libraries

Are you a local resident interested in borrowing materials from Pellissippi State’s libraries? If you're 18 years or older, you can apply for a Community Borrower's Card, a free library card for non-students, by visiting the Library Circulation Desk at any campus.

To get started, you’ll need to:

  • Fill out a short registration form
  • Show a valid Tennessee driver’s license
    (Other forms of ID may be accepted if they confirm your identity, age, and Tennessee residency)

Once approved, your Community Borrower’s Card will be valid for one year and can be renewed annually.


Borrowing Privileges for Community Members

With a Community Borrower’s Card, you may:

  • Borrow up to 5 books at a time
  • Keep items for a 2-week loan period
  • Renew items up to 3 times, as long as no one else has requested them

Borrower Responsibilities

All library users—including community borrowers—are expected to follow the library’s borrowing policies. This includes:

  • Returning items on time
  • Paying any fees for lost or damaged materials
  • Covering any collection fees if your account becomes overdue

Borrowing Privileges for Students, Faculty, and Staff from Other Tennessee Colleges

If you're affiliated with another Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) or University of Tennessee (UT) institution, you may be eligible to borrow materials from Pellissippi State’s libraries through the TALC (Tennessee Academic Library Cooperative) program.

To register for borrowing privileges, visit the Library Circulation Desk and bring the following:

  • A valid TALC Borrower’s Card issued by your home institution
  • A valid photo ID (such as a student ID or government-issued ID)
  • Complete a brief patron registration process with library staff

Once registered, you’ll be able to check out materials according to Pellissippi State’s borrowing policies.

If you're part of a Pellissippi-based cohort from another university, please refer to the following for library access and services:

Requesting Physical Books

If you’re a distance learner who lives 40 miles or more from any Pellissippi State campus, you can request to have physical books mailed to you.

To request a book by mail:

  • Email your request to libcirc@pstcc.edu
  • Include your name, P-number, mailing address, and details about the book (title, author, etc.)

Renewing Library Materials

Need more time with your library items? Renewing is easy and you don’t even have to bring the items with you!

Ways to Renew:

1. In Person
Stop by the Library Circulation Desk or ERC Service Desk on any campus.
Just let us know which items you'd like to renew. You’ll be asked to provide either:

  • Your Pellissippi State ID card, or
  • Your P-number (student ID number)

2. By Phone
Call the Circulation Desk at 865-694-6516.
Have one of the following ready:

  • Your P-number, or
  • The barcode number from the back of your TALC or Community Borrower’s Card

3. Online (PSCC Students, Faculty, and Staff Only)
Log in to your library account by clicking the My Account link in the Library Catalog.
From there, you can view your checked-out items and request renewals.
