With harpoons strapped to their backs, the proud whales of Bathsheba's pod live for the hunt, fighting in the ongoing war against the world of men. When they attack a ship bobbing on the surface of the Abyss, they expect to find easy prey. Instead, they find the trail of a myth, a monster, perhaps the devil himself...
As their relentless Captain leads the chase, they embark on a final, vengeful hunt, one that will forever change the worlds of both whales and men.

And the Ocean Was Our Sky explores issues of identity, fate, and the results of unquestioning pursuit. Characters and readers are forced to reevaluate their preconceived assumptions of good and evil while following the character Bathsheba on a journey. Because the story is metaphorical, it can be interpreted in a variety of ways making it great for a broad audience!
I was blown away by the lovely and eerie prose that Ness uses throughout the novel. The dreamy ambience of the story is further enhanced by Rovina Cai's artwork which engrossed me completely while reading.
