Environment
Work at the Service Desk. Workload varies and can fall into the range of slow to somewhat busy depending on the time of the semester and the time of the day. This is a friendly, positive, supportive, and cooperative work environment focused on career readiness competencies of self-development, leadership, communication, professionalism, critical thinking, technology, and teamwork.
Tasks Performed
- Staff Service Desk to provide excellent customer service for students, faculty, staff, and community members and answer questions, give directions, answer phone calls, and process loans, returns, and renewals.
- Create student and employee ID cards, manage study room reservations, retrieve materials from shelves, re-shelve returned items, shelf read Library of Congress call number labels to ensure that library materials are in proper order, and perform closing tasks for evening shift.
- Perform simple tech troubleshooting such as logging into Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi printing, changing passwords, etc.
- Search stacks for missing materials which may have been mis-shelved, refill printer and copier paper, sanitize surfaces, run errands, and other special projects.
Requirements
- High school graduate/GED
- 2.0 GPA minimum
- Must be enrolled in 6 credit hours, or taking one class during the summer term
- Ability to reliably work shifts as scheduled
- Must be available to work one of these shifts:
- 8am-12pm M-F
- 12pm-4pm M-F
- 4pm-7:30pm M-Th
When to Apply
The supervisor reviews applications in November-December for the spring semester, in June-July for the fall semester, and in April for the summer term.
