Environment

Work at the Service Desk assisting students and staff. Work load varies and can fall into the range of slow to busy depending on the time of the semester and the time of the day. This is a friendly, positive, supportive, and cooperative work environment focused on career readiness competencies of self-development, leadership, communication, professionalism, critical thinking, technology, and teamwork. Students will grow their professional experience working with students and staff, and experience learning computer technology systems.

Tasks Performed 

Provide excellent customer service at the Library Service Desk for students, faculty, staff, and community members

  • Answer questions, give directions, answer phone calls, record transactions, and process loans, returns, and renewals.
  • Retrieve materials from shelves, re-shelve returned items, and shelf read Library of Congress call number labels to ensure that library materials are in proper order.
  • Search stacks for missing materials which may have been misplaced, refill printer and copier paper, sanitize surfaces, run errands, and other special projects as assigned.
  • Perform IT Helpdesk duties to maintain equipment, troubleshoot student technology issues, create student and employee ID cards, etc.

General Qualifications

  • Reliability and honesty an absolute must. 
  • Communicate confidently and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with students and staff. 
  • Be able to prioritize and satisfy customer needs effectively, and be willing to learn new products and procedures. 
  • Show enthusiasm for working with groups and individuals, and learning computer technology and software systems.
  • Reliably work shifts as scheduled and communicate schedule conflicts ahead of time.

Requirements

  • High school graduate/GED
  • 2.0 GPA minimum
  • Must be enrolled in 6 credit hours
  • Attend one session of training with the IT Helpdesk staff at the Harden Valley Campus
