Circulation: Circulation Services

Circulation Basics

Circulation Services is the first point of contact for many Pellissippi library users. The Circulation Desk is on the right near the entrance of the Educational Resources Center (ERC) at the Hardin Valley Campus. Circulation services are also available at the library service desk at other Pellissippi campuses.

Services at the Circulation Desk:

  • Books from the circulating collection are checked out and returned.
  • Items placed on reserve by instructors, laptops, and iPads for use in the library are checked out and returned.
  • Both TBR/UT (TALC) borrower's cards for Pellissippi students, faculty, and staff as well as Community Borrower's cards for library users from the local community are issued.
  • Staff provide general information, help users request items through intercampus and interlibrary loans, and answer questions about overdue and billed materials.
  • If you want a book that is currently checked out, staff will place a "hold/request" on the item for you. When it is returned and is ready for check-out, you will be notified. You may also place a request on a checked out item in the online catalog.

Items may be returned to any campus library during their open hours:

  • Blount Campus Library:                           Service Desk
  • Hardin Valley Campus Library:                Circulation Desk
  • Magnolia Avenue Campus Library:          Service Desk
  • Strawberry Plains Campus Open Lab:     Service Desk

Items can be returned 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, at the Hardin Valley Library book depository located just outside the entrance to the ERC building.

The library does not charge daily fines for the late return of materials. However, keeping materials past the due date will result in 3 overdue notices, followed by a bill for the replacement cost of the item plus a $15.00 per item processing fee, if items are not returned within one month of the due date. Reserve items will be billed one week after the due date and the billing will include replacement cost of the item and per item processing fees.

First and second level overdue notices will be delivered to students, faculty, and staff via your Pellissippi State email account. Third notices and bills will be mailed to your home address of record via the U.S. Postal Service. Community Borrowers and TBR/UT borrowers will receive all notices by mail.  Overdue notices are sent as a courtesy to library users. Failure to receive notices does not negate the library’s overdue and billing policy. It is the responsibility of the library user to check college email regularly and to notify the library of any changes in mailing address.

When items are 30 days past the due date, the library refers them to Business Services for billing. Business Services will send you a bill and add the billing to your Banner account. After an item(s) is referred for billing, processing fees will not be credited or refunded. Billed items may not be renewed. If the item(s) is returned in good condition within one year of the date it was referred for billing, the replacement cost of the item will be credited or refunded.

Outstanding bills are subject to College collection procedures and any resulting collection fees. This overdue and billing policy applies to all borrowers.
