ENGL 2110: Withington: Step 3: Make a Search Strategy

Make a Search Strategy

You want your search ideas to be as specific as possible.

Research trick: Put quotes around phrases.

To find historical accounts, look in OneSearch on the libraries’ website

Ex. Historical accounts of daily life of the Massachusetts colonists. Search “Massachusetts colony” “Daily life”

To find biographical information about the author, search Literature Resource Center or Literary Sources

Ex. Edward Taylor’s daily life. Search “Edward Taylor” (choose one of the autofill results, then, limit to biography to the side of the results)

To find literary criticism that either agrees or disagrees with this topic, search for the title of the text in Literature Resource Center or Literary Sources

Ex. Huswifery (choose one of the autofill results, then, limit to literary criticism to the side of the results)
