The Blue Ridge Parkway : America's grand balcony / a production of RVC Video Productions ; UNC TV ; produced and filmed by Robert C. Van Camp ; writer/producer, Andy Lockett

"For 469 miles she brushes the clouds. A man made marvel amidst nature's best splendor. A blacktop legend built upon a blue ridge. For 469 miles she weaves, rises and falls through graceful lands of grass and granite, flowers and water falls. For 469 miles she stretches from the Shenandoah to the Smokies. It's just one road, but it can take you from a leisurely Virginia river at an elevation of 649 feet to a North Carolina mountain range well over six thousand feet. In this program we will travel the full length of the parkway and show you all the beauty it beholds, and tell you the many interesting stories behind its many attractions. Deemed the Grand Balcony, the Blue Ridge Parkway is the most visited national park in the United States. In 1958, Stanley Abbot, the parkway's first landscape architect wrote, "We had better design and build thoughtfully, sensitively, creatively, as we usher men and women into the presence of the natural gods..."
