This guide describes circulation policies regarding: library cards, checking out items, loan periods, returning items, overdue notices and replacement costs, intercampus loans, interlibrary loans, and the reserve system.

Guidelines

  • Interlibrary Loan services (ILL) are available to currently enrolled Pellissippi State students and currently employed Pellissippi State faculty and staff members.
  • Books and periodicals not owned by Pellissippi State Library Services and not available at University of Tennessee -Knoxville libraries may be requested through ILL. Please check the online catalogs for Pellissippi State and UT Libraries before submitting a request.
  • Allow 7-14 working days before expecting requested items to be here and ready for check-out. Sometimes items are received sooner and sometimes it takes longer. This service is dependent on the processes at the lending library and the U.S. Postal Service.
  • To comply with copyright guidelines, the library is limited to requesting five articles, published within the past five years, from a particular journal title per calendar year.
  • Please use ILL only to support your academic coursework or teaching not for recreational reading.
  • The library generally does not accept requests for books currently being used as textbooks for Pellissippi State courses.
  • Be aware that many libraries will not lend books recently added to their collections via Interlibrary Loan. So if the book you are looking for has a very current publication date (this year or last year), the Library will probably not be able to borrow it from another library.
 

How to Request an item

  • Submit an online ILL Request Form for each item you are requesting, using the appropriate form:  books and periodicals. ILL forms in print format are also available at the Reference and Circulation desks at the Pellissippi library and at the ERC service desk at extended campus locations if you experience a problem with the online form.
  • Be sure to include the ISBN # (books) or the ISSN # (serials) to assure speedy and accurate processing of material. Most online databases provide this information as part of the citation printout.  If you need assistance with a citation, call the reference desk at  865 539-7107 or send an e-mail to askref@pstcc.edu.
