Course Related Instruction

Reference librarians are available to teach classes to students about how to find and evaluate specific information resources.  This instruction will meet the college's general education guidelines and familiarize students with information resources in their field of study. This service is available at the instructor's request. Instructors should notify Rick Bower by e-mail (rbower@pstcc.edu) or telephone him at (865) 539-7106 to schedule instruction sessions. You may also contact him by completing and submitting the form in the box below.  The reference librarians ask that instructors give one week's notice to provide librarians adequate time to prepare for the session.

Schedule Library Instruction

If you require your students to do library research for a formal paper or other project, a librarian is available to provide library instruction for your class.  During the instruction the librarian will suggest appropriate print and online resources and advise students how to find, evaluate, and use those resources.  Also, the librarian will attempt to answer any questions the instructor or students might have about the specific project or library research in general.

Complete and submit this form to request a library instruction session for your class. A librarian will contact you by e-mail within a day or two after your request.

Instructional Support

The Library is committed to teaching information skills in individual and group settings to support the college's general education outcomes and competencies. Information skills enable students to independently gather and evaluate information using the Library's resources. These skills are necessary for students to successfully pursue their college studies and later, as graduates, to stay abreast of current developments in their area of specialization. The ability to retrieve and evaluate information also assists individuals in making personal decisions.

Consulting Services

Additional consulting services available to faculty include developing subject-related bibliographies and assisting with research assignments.
