Interlibrary Loan FAQs

  • What is an Interlibrary Loan? An interlibrary loan occurs when one library loans material to another library so that the second library can then loan the material to one of their patrons (in our case, Pellissippi students, faculty, or staff).
  • Who is Eligible to Request an Interlibrary Loan? Currently enrolled Pellissippi students and currently employed Pellissippi faculty and staff members.
  • What Items can be Requested? Books, journal articles, and articles from other types of periodicals.
  • How Long Will it Take? On average, items are received within 7-14 days. Items may be received sooner, but may also take longer because this service is dependent on the processing time at the lending library and the U.S. Postal Service delivery schedules.

Copyright Compliance Restrictions:  Interlibrary loan requests for articles from a journal title published fewer than five years before date of request must not exceed more than five articles from the single journal title in a calendar year.  Only items the Pellissippi Libraries do not own are eligible for interlibrary loan requests.
